Sailing season and weather in Turkey
Turkish climate is various but typical Mediterranean with hot summers and mild, wet winters. Along the coasts light winds blow, nights are usually cool. From June to August day temperatures are between 82 and 95°F (28–35°C). The sun shines about 300 days a year. Water temperatures: 77–82°F (25–28°C).
In summer, meltemi winds prevails on Aegean coast. It blows from May till the end of August and can be very strong in its peak (usually from 1 PM to 5 PM with speed up to 25 knots). In general, winds in Turkey are positive for sailing.
In case the weather suddenly goes bad (although storms in Turkey happen rather rarely), you can find shelter anywhere along the coast. You can even travel during mild storm weather In most large bays, such as Fethiye, Hisaronu and Yesilova, Gekova and Kekova.
