Why sailors love Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a yachting center. The ships are welcome to a comfortable ACI marina Dubrovnik with 450 water places mostly occupied by the rental yachts. It is located in the suburbs, one could get there by taxi or by bus. Another point where the mooring is allowed is a commercial port.

The international airport is located outside the city, in a 40-minute drive from the marina. Charter flights from the European capitals for those who want to hire a yacht in Dubrovnik are in schedule all year round.

Regattas are held here all year round: amateur, professional, and purely entertaining ones combining competition with the acquaintance with the local cuisine, for example. The most popular events are the South Dalmatia Regatta and Dubrovnik Regatta. Yachting vacation in Dubrovnik is a great idea!

Keep in mind that Dubrovnik is a popular yachting destination and yachts and catamarans are usually fully booked for peak season, so don't delay! Sailica experts will help you find and book the perfect yacht or catamaran.

The locals joke saying the one who visited Dubrovnik, saw the whole Croatia. And it, indeed, may be true as all the best things that the Balkan country is proud of are gathered in this city: magnificent architecture, breathtaking landscapes, wide and neat beaches, cozy restaurants, you name it. Sailing holidays in Dubrovnik are suitable for the whole family.

Today Dubrovnik is the main resort on the Adriatic Sea, included by UNESCO in the list of the best European Renaissance sites.

Dubrovnik sailing routes

Sailing routes from Dubrovnik start and end in its ACI Marina. Yacht routes there, for the most part, include the islands of Mljet, Korčula, Hvar, Brač, more rarely, Lastovo and Vis which are the most remote islands from the mainland. Most yachts are rented for a week, which is enough to visit major ones or even all of the above islands. The length of the routes is ranging from 150 to 250 nautical miles.

The routes of yacht cruises lead along the coast or to the islands.

Here is a reliable variant for 7 days:

  • Dubrovnik — Saplunar (Mljet) — Korcula (Korcula) — Vela Luka (Korcula) — Velji Lago (Lastovo) — Pomena (Mljet) — Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik is considered to be quite an expensive resort. With Sailica, you will regularly get the propositions with the cut prices for the yacht charter in Southern Dalmatia. If you find a yacht you like, leave a request. We will contact you and plan a yacht trip together.

Yachting season and weather in Dubrovnik

During the high season, the strength of the wind largely depends on the air temperature — the hotter it is over land, the stronger the wind from the sea, as the hot air «draws» the coolness from the sea. Along the entire Adriatic coast, the wind blows from the southwest.

It should also be noted that the wind rises from 9 am to noon, then there is calm for several hours (local sailors say that the wind «went to lunch»), before increasing from about 2 pm to 6 pm. At night, a light breeze blows towards the sea, but sometimes it becomes completely calm.

Outside the yachting season, winds can blow in any direction and at different speeds — these can be strong winds from the mountains, icy winds from Russia, tropical storms from the Mediterranean Sea, or a light breeze from Italy.

Summer in Dubrovnik lasts from mid-April to late September, which roughly coincides with the yachting season. At the height of summer, in August, the temperature can reach + 30 °C degrees. In winter, when temperatures drop, it is very rare for Dubrovnik to experience frost, snow, or ice, and you are unlikely to see any of the locals in thick heavy coats.

The climate is more of a temperate one. As long as Dubrovnik is not “fenced off” from the Adriatic Sea by islands, the weather is softer and warmer there than in many other resort areas of Dalmatia.

Water temperature in sailing season +22...+25 °
Air temperature in sailing season +26...+30 °
Wind speed in sailing season 10 - 15 knots

Weather forecast for yachting in Dubrovnik

Full recommendation. Great service & support. We chartered a Beneteau 45 in Athens for our trip around Peloponnes. Great service and perfect customer support from beginning to the end. Due to corona we had to postpone our trip - Sailica managed all the communication with the charter agency and negotiated a great new deal for us. This was already the 2nd time we charted with Sailica and it won't be the last time. Full recommendation

I took Dufour Grand Large 560 at Croatia using online yacht rental service sailica.com It's easy to use their mobile app with fair prices and enough quantity of boats which suits to my parameters. Their managers assisted me through whole communication with charter company. It was pleasant to receive a small gift – free of charge transfer from airport to marina. We didn't request it and appreciate their overexpected level of service.

Amazing 1 week in Turkey! I sailed with Sailica on a tour in the gulf of Fethiye in Turkey. Overall it was a great experience and a great crew, even if I did not know them before. The area is amazingly beautiful and if you go in April you can avoid the crowds. The skipper was very proficient and knew what he was doing. Highly recommended!

Great company! The guys answered all our questions which were very important since it was our first sailing experience. Moreover, they advised us not only on a charter but also on the tour itself. This was not the responsibility of the company, but we needed help and the company managers helped us for free. I highly recommend the team. The guys are really reliable, proactive and customer-oriented.

Super Beratung - sehr schnell wurde für mich ein passendes Boot in der Türkei gefunden. Sehr guter Preis, und ich konnte einen Skipper aussuchen, den ich bereits vom letzten Mal kannte. Volle Empfehlung!
