Yachting season and weather in Dubrovnik
During the high season, the strength of the wind largely depends on the air temperature — the hotter it is over land, the stronger the wind from the sea, as the hot air «draws» the coolness from the sea. Along the entire Adriatic coast, the wind blows from the southwest.
It should also be noted that the wind rises from 9 am to noon, then there is calm for several hours (local sailors say that the wind «went to lunch»), before increasing from about 2 pm to 6 pm. At night, a light breeze blows towards the sea, but sometimes it becomes completely calm.
Outside the yachting season, winds can blow in any direction and at different speeds — these can be strong winds from the mountains, icy winds from Russia, tropical storms from the Mediterranean Sea, or a light breeze from Italy.
Summer in Dubrovnik lasts from mid-April to late September, which roughly coincides with the yachting season. At the height of summer, in August, the temperature can reach + 30 °C degrees. In winter, when temperatures drop, it is very rare for Dubrovnik to experience frost, snow, or ice, and you are unlikely to see any of the locals in thick heavy coats.
The climate is more of a temperate one. As long as Dubrovnik is not “fenced off” from the Adriatic Sea by islands, the weather is softer and warmer there than in many other resort areas of Dalmatia.
